Carrie goes barhopping with Big and finds that their relationship as “friends” has never been better. Charlotte and Trey are enjoying themselves as well – having steamy sex in coatrooms and other public places around the city. However, Charlotte starts to wonder where she and Trey are headed. Out on the town again with Big, Carrie is drawn to jazz musician Ray King, who flirts with her and gets her number. Big is noticeably annoyed and Carrie realizes they need to define their relationship., A handsome musician (Craig Bierko) gets Carrie thinking about “all that jazz” of relationships; Charlotte and Trey take an interesting tour of Manhattan; Miranda decides a couple should have boundaries. Big makes his displeasure with Carrie’s flirtation blatantly obvious, leading Carrie to realize that they need to define the grayer aspects of their evolving relationship. Speaking of relationships, Samantha (Kim Cattrall) finds herself attracted to Maria (Sonia Braga), a Brazilian artist who defines herself as a “relationship person” and would like to embark on one with Samantha. Although Samantha warns Maria that she is definitely not one for relationships, the two women decide to give it a go. Charlotte (Kristin Davis), meanwhile, is reveling in newfound carnal bliss with Trey (Kyle MacLachlan) in coatrooms all over town, but finds her enjoyment compromised by the lack of direction in their marriage. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) also finds her bliss compromised when, after their first night together, her new man Doug (Jim Gaffigan) exhibits a no-holds-barred attitude toward relieving himself with the bathroom door open. Although she tries to be open-minded, Doug’s laisser faire treatment of his scatological functions forces Miranda to conclude that certain things just aren’t meant to be shared.
