This spy thriller, based on a novel by Graham Swift, follows the adventures of a former British secret agent in World War II who has retired to a villa in Lisbon. The impenetrable story is sustained by the ever-charming Alan Bates’ performance as James Prentis, but the reason his Scotland Yard son (Lambert Wilson) is trying to contact him there over twenty years after the war never becomes entirely clear, though he is evidently in some danger. Some secrets remain dangerous for many decades, and the elder Prentis is a repository for more than a few of these.
