This rags-to-riches documentary examines the life of transsexual drag performer International Chrysis. It’s a story of a beautiful boy who ran away from his Brooklyn home and eventually rose to fame and predominance during the ’60s. This drag artist was very charismatic, cultivated many new friends — including surrealist painter Salvador Dali — and found an audience appreciative of his talents. Chrysis, who died of cancer in 1990, tells a fascinating tale of the gender socialite, described as a cross between Raquel Welch and Joan Collins.
