Only after ordering the evacuation of the vessel does Captain Picard discover that the computer was tampered with by aliens, who promptly steal the Enterprise and blast off for their own world, the dying planet Bynarus. A subplot involving Riker’s romance with a woman he’s met during a Holodeck-engendered trip to 1958 New Orleans unexpectedly figures into the main storyline. Written by Maurice Hurley and Robert Lewin, “11001001” originally aired February 6, 1988, and later that year earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Sound Editing., The Enterprise docks at Starbase 74 to upgrade the ship’s computer system, but the Bynars, a species interdependent with computers, lead them into a deadly trap., The ship’s computers receive an upgrade, but the results prove distracting for Riker and Picard when a surprising realistic holodeck character appears.., The new U.S.S. Enterprise and its crew boldly go where no man has gone before. The Enterprise docks at Starbase 74 where the Bynars are set to upgrade the ship’s computer system.
