When the Enterprise is frozen in time, Picard, Data and Troi have to free their ship without dooming it to destruction by a Romulan warbird, which is frozen in the process of firing its disruptor beam at the Enterprise., Returning from a three-day conference, Picard, Troi, Data, and LaForge find the Enterprise in a state of suspended animation. Likewise frozen in time is a Romulan Warbird, locked in a deadly battle with the Enterprise. The returnees must figure out a way to re-mobilize the two starships without rekindling their battle, which of course would mean total destruction for the rest of the Enterprise crew.
