Surveyor Hao (Mason Lee) is part a team of engineers sent to an abandoned Chinese housing development to investigate the possibility of building a subway below. While wandering through a school, he finds the diary of a young boy, also named Hao (Gong Zihan), who goes on a quest with his friends in which they begin to disappear one by one. As the older Hao continues his work, his path intersects with that of the young boy.
