Something Cruel Is About to Happen…Real Soon
Survivor: Fiji gets started on a “pristine” Fijian Island, where this season’s 19 contestants are swiftly deposited. Before long, some blueprints, supplies and a map are air-dropped, whereupon architect Sylvia Kwan takes charge of the preliminary camp construction. It is also Sylvia’s responsibility to divide her 18 fellow castaways into two different tribes, the Moto and the Ravu–after which she is ignominously shunted off to snake-infested Exile Island, where she will remain until the first contestant is voted off and room is made for her in one of the tribes. After the initial challenge, a chariot race through the island’s mud flats, the Moto tribe is rewarded with luxuries and the Ravu is stuck with the barest essentials. Nor is the Ravu much luckier after the first tribal council, in which their membership is reduced from nine contestants to eight., The 14th edition of the reality series strands 19 castaways on the Fiji Islands to vie for the $1 million first-place prize. Initially, everyone lives together at a camp with plenty of supplies, but on the third day the group is split into two tribes. The team that loses the first immunity challenge must relocate to a different island with little resources. Also, the players learn that a hidden immunity idol is located at each tribal camp.
