The Mother-Muffin Affair
In London, April (Stefanie Powers) and Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) are trapped in a hotel by the sinister Mother Muffin (Boris Karloff). Rodney: Bernard Fox., In one of his most outrageous characterizations, Boris Karloff appears in drag as Mother Muffin, the head of a London-based academy for assassins. UNCLE agents April Dancer and Napoleon Solo (Man From U.N.C.L.E. star Robert Vaughn, trading “crossover” appearances with his Girl From U.N.C.L.E. counterpart Noel Harrison) try to keep the daughter of key Mob witness Vito Pomade (Bruce Gordon) from falling into Mother Muffin’s clutches. Ultimately, April and Solo are captured and nearly converted into wax replicas of themselves. Also appearing are Bernard Fox as Mother Muffin’s ineffectual assistant Rodney Babcock and Arthur Malet as the “blind” beggar who opens the episode; in addition, series makeup artist William Tuttle shows up in an unbilled bit.
