Going a step farther, he insists that he can talk his “good friend” Jackie Gleason into appearing — and never mind that Ralph has never met Jackie in his life. When the Lodge sells a thousand tickets in anticipation of Gleason’s appearance, a desperate Ralph and Ed head down to the hotel where the cast of The Jackie Gleason Show is rehearsing, hoping to persuade Jackie into performing gratis. The boys fail in their efforts, but Ralph’s wife Alice saves the day in an unexpected fashion.
