Bonnie Slaughter (Tammi Bula), teenaged daughter of news writer Murray (Gavin MacLeod), goes to work in the newsroom. Overprotective Murray bends over backward to make certain that his darling daughter will make a comfortable entrée into the professional world, even persuading boss Lou Grant (Edward Asner) to hold off swearing. Alas, Bonnie is none too qualified for her new job — which means that someone is going to be saddled with the task of firing Daddy’s Best Girl.
