During the civil war that has lasted for 17 years in Sudan, the Nuba villagers have endured many attempts to wipe out their culture. In a struggle that has received little publicity, the people living in the Nuba Mountains are isolated from relief forces, and are forced to live in certain areas, having lost their valuable pastureland. Their beliefs and lifestyle make it difficult to assimilate into traditional Islamic practices of the Khartoum government. The Right to Be Nuba is produced by anthropologist Hugo D’Aybaury, who captures the pride and resilience of a people that may well be doomed.
