A divorced New Yorker tries for a comedy career while raising two daughters., Dottie Ingels has always dreamed of becoming a stand-up comedienne. When she inherits a house from her Aunt, she finally has the financial stability to try it out. She manages to find an agent who fixes up a tour, but her continuing absence from home leads her two daughters to become resentful of their mother’s new career and she is forced into re-evaluating her life and ambitions, Aspiring comedienne Dottie’s biggest fans are her two daughters, but when her big break comes and she takes her act on the road, they find that motherhood and stand-up just don’t mix. The girls are even less impressed when Dottie airs the family’s dirty washing as the stuff of comedy., Nora Ephron’s directorial debut This Is My Life (based on Meg Wolitzer’s novel This is Your Life) is about a single working mother (Julie Kavner) whose attention is torn between her two daughters and her promising career as a stand-up comedian.
