Mountie action. Kermit Maynard, Billie Seward, Monte Blue. Sam Newfield directed., While not the best of Kermit Maynard’s “Mountie” adventures, Trails of the Wild was well up to the series’ reasonably high standards. The story is motivated by RCMP officer McKenna’s (Maynard) efforts to capture the low-down rat responsible for his best friend’s murder. This leads McKenna to a hidden gold mine, replete with secret passages and trap doors. The villains are determined to strip the mine of its wealth and leave the honest prospectors (including the father of heroine Billie Seward) in the lurch. Old-timers Monte Blue, Theodore Von Eltz and Matthew Betz make an impressive trio of bad guys. Trails of the Wild was based on a story by the incredibly prolific James Oliver Curwood.
