Wallander investigates the crash of a plane that may be tied to a rivalry between drug gangs. He also comes to grips with a murder he was unable to prevent as a young policeman when the victim’s daughter dies of a heroin overdose., Wallander is haunted by the spectre of a murder he was unable to prevent as a young policeman. Years later the daughter of the murder victim dies of a heroin overdose. A distressed Wallander is assigned to investigate the crash of a light airplane and a detonated shell is found in the wreckage. A few days later, two elderly sisters are killed in an explosion in a sewing supplies shop. Evidence indicates that both events are tied to a showdown between two rival narcotics gangs.
