Marion Davies stars as Mary Tudor in this historical romantic drama. Her brother King Henry VIII (Lyn Harding) wants Mary to wed Louis XII (William Norris) of France, but Mary refuses and runs away with the commoner Charles Brandon (Forrest Stanley). She finally agrees to marry the king if he allows her to wed Brandon after the monarch dies. Louis XII agrees and dies shortly after the marriage. Mary hopes to be reunited with Brandon, but new monarch Francis I (William H. Powell) covets her for his queen. This lavish production cost William Randolph Hearst an estimated 1.5 million dollars. Watch for Flora Finch as a French lady in waiting. Finch starred with John Bunny in his memorable Vitagraph comedies until his death in 1915., Henry VIII’s younger sister defies convention by falling for a commoner.
