His Master’s Voice
Still working undercover as a deputy sheriff in the corruption-drenched Washington town of Lynchboro, Vinnie (Ken Wahl) tries to solve the murders of two former deputies. Town boss Volchek (Steve Ryan) suspects that the murders were committed by an elusive serial killer, and he wants Vinnie to handle the case without bringing in the sort of outside authorities who might expose Volchek’s own underhanded activities. Before the episode comes to its literally electrifying finale, the viewer is treated to a terrific expository scene involving the classic horror film Mr. Sardonicus (the one in which the audience was invited to “vote” on the ending)., When a serial killer’s trail leads to Lynchboro, Volchek assigns the investigation to Vinnie, who brings in McPike as the Federal investigator.
