IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack : Ministry of Information and Broadcasting summons Netflix content head and asks for response
The government has come into action mode after the controversy over the OTT web series IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack deepened. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has summoned Netflix’s content head Monica Shergill.
This web series was released on Netflix on 29 August, the story of which is based on the Kandahar plane hijack. The whole controversy arose over the use of Hindu names in it.
There is a lot of uproar over the web series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack starring Vijay Verma and directed by Anubhav Sinha. This entire uproar is over showing the Hindu names of the terrorists in the film.
Actually the names of the terrorists who hijackered the plane were Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Saeed, Gulshan Iqbal, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Mistry Zahoor Ibrahim and Shakir. But they were talking to each other in the plane using code words Bhola, Shankar, Doctor, Burger and Chief. People on social media have objected to the names Bhola and Shankar. They say that Anubhav Sinha deliberately used Hindu names.
