Before Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayan, Ram Gopal Varma says it’s ‘dangerous’ to make mythological movies

Ram Gopal Varma : ‘Why touch a sensitive topic?’

Ram Gopal Varma has expressed concern over filmmakers attempting to adapt mythological stories, labeling it as a “dangerous” endeavor. He particularly highlighted the example of Adipurush, suggesting that the film’s negative reception could have been mitigated if it had been promoted as just another Prabhas movie, rather than an adaptation of the Ramayana.

Varma warned against touching such sensitive topics, especially when they hold deep cultural significance for many, as it can easily lead to backlash and controversy.

Ram Gopal Varma also criticized the trend of making high-budget mythological films without considering the potential for controversy and misinterpretation. He argued that films like Adipurush face extra scrutiny because of their cultural and religious significance, making them riskier than other types of cinema.

Varma suggested that filmmakers should be cautious and question whether it’s worth touching such sensitive subjects, given the potential backlash from audiences who may find these portrayals offensive or inaccurate.
