Director Ranjith, who is facing charges of sexual offence after the Justice Hema Committee report was made public, has approached the Kerala High Court for protection from arrest. Earlier, Siddiqui had also approached the court for anticipatory bail.

Recently, Ranjith Balakrishnan has filed an anticipatory bail petition, claiming that the complainant has filed the case against him out of frustration and anger after not being selected to act in the film. The petition also states that the woman is being instigated again by some vested interests who want her to be removed from the post of Chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy.

The 60-year-old director has also claimed that he is suffering from multiple ailments and has recently undergone a liver transplant, hence he needs good and proper medical care and attention. The plea states that he is not a flight risk and he undertakes to cooperate in the investigation. He has also mentioned in his plea that the court may impose sufficient conditions for a proper investigation.”
