Superman Returns : Excitement Builds as James Gunn Shares Preview of David Corenswet’s Superman Costume
Superman Returns : James Gunn, has revealed the first glimpse of David Corenswet as Superman in the upcoming superhero movie set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. The new super-suit stays true to the comic’s design, featuring the iconic S curl.
The image portrays Superman in a more relatable light, showing him gearing up for another day of heroics, just like any regular person putting on their shoes. Despite his superhero status, Superman’s costume appears worn and dusty from his recent battles. He sports a crimson cape and slicked-back black hair, ready to take on the challenges awaiting him outside in the city.
James Gunn shared the picture on Instagram on Monday, captioning it “Get ready. #Superman 7.11.25.” The upcoming film, previously titled Superman: Legacy, marks the beginning of DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.
In addition to Corenswet, the cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Superman’s nemesis Lex Luthor. Other cast members include Anthony Carrigan, Skyler Gisondo, Nathan Fillon, Isabela Mercad, and Edi Gathegi.
Known for his work on the Guardian of the Galaxy films and The Suicide Squad (2021), Gunn has both directed and written the screenplay for the upcoming superhero movie.
Superman is co-produced by DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, who has been involved in projects like the Aquaman films and The Conjuring franchise.
