Tabu discusses Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and her unwillingness to play characters over the age of 30 in films.
Tabu is gearing up for her second release in 2024, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha. This year, in March, the actress wowed audiences with her incredible performance in Crew. The film also features Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kriti Sanon. In Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, the actress co-stars with Ajay Devgn. Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar play the younger versions of Tabu and Ajay in the film, which is directed by Neeraj Pandey.
Tabu has never been afraid to take risks as an actor and play characters her own age. As a result, rather than de-aging for Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, the actress expressed gratitude to the producers for casting younger performers. In an interview, the Andhadhun star stated that she does not enjoy de-aging or portraying younger roles.
In an interview, Tabu expressed her relief when Neeraj Pandey revealed that Shantanu Maheshwari and Sai Manjarekar would play the younger characters. The actress believes that employing de-aging technologies on actors can appear gimmicky, especially if the audience knows how old they are. Tabu noted that, while the public has seen the actors’ current appearances, the acceptability of casting older actors in younger roles is determined by the sort of film and circumstances. In some circumstances, such casting can work without becoming distracting to viewers, but for Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, it was more successful to hire performers whose ages matched their characters.
Tabu also remarked that in the past, people would cast younger actors to play the younger versions of the protagonists. When the character grows up, we’ll see Dharmendra or Dilip Kumar play the adult version. In the same interview, Tabu stated that she no longer wants to play a 30-year-old in films. She has no choice but to accept her age.
Meanwhile, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is Tabu and Ajay Devgn‘s eighth collaboration. The two had previously appeared together in films such as Vijaypath, Haqeeqat, Thakshak, Drishyam, Golmaal Again, De De Pyaar De, and Drishyam 2. The film AMKDT will be released in theatres on August 2, 2024. The actress will next appear in the American sci-fi series Dune: Prophecy, a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films.
