The series is set in post-Roman, dark-age Britain. The High King Uther died, leaving the infant child as his only heir. His uncle, who is a loyal and gifted warlord named Arthur, now rules as a caretaker for a country. The kingdom faces threats as the Saxon armies are ready to invade the kingdom. Arthur struggles to unite Britain and hold back the enemy at the gates.

The series is based on the novel The Warlord Chronicles written by Bernard Cornwell. And it was developed by Kate Brooke and Ed Whitmore. The producer of the series is Catrin Lewis Defis.
