Unsolved Mysteries Volume 4: Features the most frightening episode in recent history
Unsolved Mysteries Volume 4 continues to explore a wide range of topics, including suspicious deaths, missing people cases, and paranormal activity, the revived Unsolved Mysteries abandoned its anthology structure. Instead of a series of pieces concerning several mysteries, each episode focusses on a one case.
The late Robert Stack‘s gloomy yet steadfast voiceover is also gone, and it will be dearly missed. Rewatching the episodes of the classic series reveals how even the most bleak cases provided a glimmer of optimism. As the section ended, you’d clutch your breath for Stack’s husky voice to announce firmly, “Update.” Then, a racing synth music would play, describing how the case has progressed or even been resolved.
Unsolved Mysteries Volume 4 delves into five new mysteries, including a summary of Jack the Ripper’s crimes, the cold case of Sigrid Stevenson, who was murdered on the college stage where she loved to perform, the strange discovery of an embalmed head in Pennsylvania, and a look at the Mothman, the American cryptid most popular in internet culture.
Netflix has spent much in true crime. The streaming site not only features iconic documentaries like Making a Murderer, The Keepers, and Amanda Knox, but also captivating drama series based on true crimes like The Watcher, When They See Us, and Mindhunter. So it seemed like a perfect fit for Netflix to revive Unsolved Mysteries even if it required a dramatic reimagining.
